London audio startup eyes US expansion with £5.6m raise

A London-based voice isolation startup, IRIS Audio Technologies, has raised $7m (£5.6m) in a Series A funding round to drive an expansion into North America.

IRIS has developed a suite of audio tools that are based on research into how sound affects the brain. Its flagship product is the IRIS Clarity, an AI-powered product that removes background noises from calls.

It also has products to improve the quality of audio files.

“As organisations from public services to motor racing and call centres become ever more virtual in how they communicate, our mission is to make critical communications clearer, more effective and less taxing by eradicating background noise,” said Jacobi Anstruther, founder and CEO of IRIS Audio.

“We want to help contact centre staff deliver more resolutions and motorsports teams win more races through higher quality digital communications. This funding round is a significant step in enabling that.”

The investment round was led by Puma Private Equity and featured participation from existing investors TAG Group, Toby Brzoznowski, and the Ojjeh family.

“IRIS Audio’s unique technology has already proven to have demonstrable benefits to the contact centres it serves and the breadth of use cases for its technology gives it a significant addressable market,” said Harriet Rosethorn, investment director at Puma Private Equity.

“The company benefits from a truly exceptional leadership team, and we’re excited to be part of the journey.”

The company previously raised £2.5m in a funding round in May 2020.
