Körülbelül 5000 éves templom maradványaira bukkantak egy homokbucka alatt, Peruban – írja a Live Science. Az épület falai között három felnőtt csontvázát is megtalálták.
Az elhunytak mellett szövetbe csomagolt tárgyak feküdtek, amelyből a szakértők arra következtetnek, hogy a templom áldozati szertartások helyszínéül szolgálhatott.
Luis Armando Muro Ynoñán régész elárulta, hogy az ősi vallási épület falai vályogból készültek, benne pedig egy központi lépcső maradványait is felfedezték, amely feltehetőleg egy színpadhoz hasonló emelvényre vezetett fel.
A falakat különféle képekkel dekorálták ki, amelyeken madárfejű emberek szerepelnek. Ezeknek az alakoknak hüllőszerű karmaik vannak, és macskafélékre emlékeztető jegyekkel is bírnak.
Az épületet egyébként egy Los Paredones nevű régészeti területen találták meg, amely az Inka Birodalom egyik központja volt. A most felfedezett templom azonban bő 4000 évvel a dél-amerikai őslakos civilizáció létrejötte előtt épült.
