Getir signs rapid delivery deal with Co-op in London

Rapid delivery startup Getir has secured a deal with the Co-op to list its products at certain London stores.

The move by the Turkish-founded startup comes at a time when on-demand delivery services seek out additional revenue streams in what is currently a low-margin model and unprofitable model.

It joins a growing trend of delivery services partnering up with supermarkets, such as the short-lasting collaboration between M&S and Deliveroo and Deliveroo trialling 10-minute grocery deliveries with Waitrose.

“Getir is enabling us to reach more Co-op customers across London and the UK in record time is an exciting proposition for us,” said James Roberts, head of sales and wholesale corporate development, NISA Retail Ltd.

The delivery service is reportedly in talks to acquire its competitor Gorillas. Getir has neither confirmed nor denied the reports.

Getir has received total funding of $1.8bn since being founded in 2015 and is valued at $11.8bn, according to Dealroom.

Operating in every city in Turkey, last year Getir decided to expand internationally into the UK, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and the United States.

Kristof Van Beveren, general manager, UK, Getir, said: “Getir is committed not only to speed and convenience but to exploring new and innovative ways to serve customers looking for a broad selection of products and everyday groceries.”
