Dubai International Chamber opens London office to attract UK scaleups

Dubai International Chamber is opening a London office to support UK businesses expanding or moving operations to the Emirati city, with a focus on scaleup companies.

It is Dubai International Chambers’ first  European office, signalling a vote of confidence in the UK’s tech startups and scaleups.

“The United Kingdom has always been a key strategic market for Dubai and a land of opportunity where our members can thrive as they seek out exciting new trade and investment opportunities,” said Khalid Al Shamsi, vice president of operations at Dubai Chambers.

The chamber, established to promote Dubai’s business credentials and attract companies looking to enter the market, plans to open 50 offices globally before 2030.

There are over 9,200 UK firms registered with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce as of 2022, the organisation said.

In 2022, the UK scored 15th on Dubai’s list of trading partners reaching AED29.7bn (£6.3bn) of non-oil trade. Aircraft, spacecraft and parts sent to the UAE from the UK were worth AED6.24bn (£1.3bn) last year.

Al Shamsi said: “As Dubai International Chambers’ first international office in Europe, the opening of our 20th commercial representative office in London is a landmark occasion that will bring far-reaching benefits.”

It is the latest push from Dubai to tap into the UK tech market this week, with Lloyd’s and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism announcing an insurtech accelerator to help Dubai-based startups gain entry to London.
